In the 2020 inaugural launch of Canada’s Equal Voice Virtual Campaign School, Betsy delivered one of eight sessions over the course of the campaign college. Betsy’s contribution focused on ‘Building Campaign Teams’ using the metaphor of teamwork in sports and mountain climbing – her own experience climbing Mt. Aconcagua and Mt. Kilimanjaro – and drawn from her filming of Everest athletes for her Fellowship at Harvard Kennedy School.

More than ever before, the impact of Women’s leadership is being noticed and compared to other countries. In August 2020, Liverpool University released a report analyzing 194 countries to compare COVID outcomes in the 19 countries led by women. They found a significant and systemic difference in COVID outcomes and that this difference could, in part, be explained by women’s risk behaviour and Women’s leadership style.
Doctor McGregor and our youth chair Edward co-authored an Op-Ed on the need for a feminist economic COVID-19 recovery plan.
Why?
Because counting women in never mattered more. COVID-19 is a ‘gendered crisis’. The virus is virulent, global and relentless – striking anyone anywhere. But the impact of lockdowns, job losses, school closures, social distancing and physical isolation is disproportionately harsher on women.
