Betsy McGregor visits her alma mater with a copy of ‘Women on the Ballot’
Author Betsy McGregor stopped by Queen Mary Public School Tuesday to present the school with a copy of her new book, "Women on the Ballot," on Tuesday.
McGregor went to Queen Mary as a child. "I dedicated the book to the library and all the girls and young students of their generation hopeful they will build a 'world made anew,'" McGregor stated. "I make note in the book of an exciting public school program, Dancing Backwards — which is a free, bilingual program to open the way for kids to create stories, plays and you tubes on the lives of famous women in our country in politics who are invisible in school textbooks." McGregor's book profiles 95 women who have run for and/or served in public office in Canada.
It had its formal launch Wednesday night at Trent University, hosted by the students and with a panel discussion featuring Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation Chief Kelly LaRocca, Rev. Cheri DiNovo, Coun. Kemi Akapo and former premier Kathleen Wynne.
Examiner columnist Rosemary Ganley wrote about McGregor's book in her column this week.
